Biomedical research

BIGH has qualified staff and access to internationally-standard platforms for project design and implementation:

  • Good Clinical Practice Clinical Trials: Phase 1-3 Clinical Trials of Drugs and Vaccines
  • Climate Change and Health: research on the impact of climate variability on health outcomes, disease transmission and resource availability...
  • One Health approach: integrating human, animal and environmental health research to combat zoonotic diseases and address broader health challenges.
  • Genomics and Molecular Biology: genetic research to understand the susceptibility to diseases, the efficacy of drugs, vaccines...

Public and Population Research

Our scientists have proven expertise in the following areas:

  • Implementation and Community-based Research: Engage communities to improve health research behaviours, disease prevention and access to care.
  • Public health and epidemiology: assessing the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases, responding to epidemics, strengthening health systems, conducting research on health policy, designing and implementing population-based surveys...
  • Health Systems Research: focus on improving access to health care, quality of care and equity in health.
  • Health and Demographic Monitoring System: the establishment of systems to monitor changes in population health and dynamics over time.

Burkina Institute of Global Health (BIGH)

Capacity Building

Through its expert group, BIGH provides essential training and technical assistance, including:

  • Training:
    • ICH-GCP Training
    • Introduction to Clinical Research
    • Statistical analysis of research data: Use common software tools such as R, SPSS and STATA.
    • Development of Standard Operating Procedures and Research Protocols.
  • Technical Support:
    • Conduct PCB-compliant clinical trials
    • Development and maintenance of data management systems.

Advocacy and Implementation

To bridge the gap between research results and their actual impact on health, BIGH aims to promote and implement evidence-based health interventions. This approach improves the accessibility of effective interventions to populations that need them most. The main aspects and strategies of BIGH are:

  • For advocacy: awareness raising, coalition building and partnerships, policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, use of data and evidence...
  • For advocacy: awareness raising, coalition building and partnerships, policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, use of data and evidence...
  • For introduction, implementation at scale: integration into health systems, capacity building, extension of programmes, community-based approaches, health promotion campaigns, supply chain management and logistics, quality assurance, monitoring-evaluation-learning, reduction of barriers to access.
